‘Green Grandma’ fighting pollution in Jakarta, Indonesia

A 77 year old woman from a poor neighborhood is leading her community in recycling garbage, saving energy and growing plants to fight pollution.

Indonesia is world’s third largest emitter of greenhouse gas because of pollution and rapid deforestation. Harini Bambang Wahono whom locals call ‘Green Grandma’ is engaging both young and adults in her community to turn the area into Jakarta’s cleanliest neighborhood. An AFP video report.

Go Green Grandma! Jakarta really needs to revamp on how they treat garbage and pollution. I hope her teachings and ideas will spread wide in all Jakarta not only South Jakarta. And, they definitely need to be passed down to the young ones. Recycle and be green!

Wow, props to her. I would have thought that green revolutionaries or missions would have been started by the youth of today, but go Grandma...

As for us here, we have our own "Green Bainbridge florist" in out town
